Faces of Peru : After I walked the Camino Santiago in Spain with Ben for two weeks last year, Cindi asked me to come up with a little trek of our own. She had read about the Inca Trail in Peru, and one thing led to another. We ended up traveling all over that country for an insane two weeks, taking all manner of conveyances to all sorts of places. These included the Paracas nature preserve, the Nasca lines, Lake Titicaca, Cusco and the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, and a jungle lodge near Puerto Maldonado. We had moments of ecstasy and sheer terror, including a near-fatal collision with a motorcycle on a steep mountain road.

I loved all those places, but fell in love especially with the faces, of the people and creatures we encountered along the way, and most especially, with the children.

So here are a few slices of life captured at random by a wide-eyed tourist as he meandered through a crazy and enchanting country. These are the faces: the places are in the next album.

Places of Peru : This gallery complements "Faces of Peru". When Cindi and I traveled to this diverse country in Oct-Nov 2008, we had no preconceptions. Having returned only last week, it's hard to say whether the striking geography or its inhabitants left the greatest impression. The album “Faces of Peru” is a visual attempt to describe the warmth and strength of a cross section of Peruvians who befriended us, tweaked our curiosity, and often amazed us.

This little album is a record of the places we visited in a dizzying two weeks, starting with the Paracas nature reserve, the huge and enigmatgic Nasca lines, Cusco and the Sacred Valley, a trek near Lares and Macchu Picchu, and the tropical rain forest on the Rio Madre, an Amazon tributary…. in that order.

Many thanks to Ariana Svenson of ApusPeru Travel, who helped us organize the trip, and especially to Big Willie, who was our guide and mentor fro 4 days in the mountains.

Welcome to Earth as seen by Jim Rudick.

Once upon a time I found myself suddenly placed on this wonderful planet in this unfathomable universe, in this body, without a mission statement or instruction manual.
So I brought along a camera and set out to discover pretty much everything.
Here is what I've found so far.

The Little Art Gallery in North Canton featured my 2 and 3-D photos in June and July, 2005. Some of these are included under "ART", below.
